Speaking Truth in Love

Ephesians 4:15

← Previous Day Next Day →

Today’s Scripture

“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”

~ Ephesians 4:15

Reflection

Paul identifies two extremes that destroy relationships: truth without love, and love without truth. Truth without love is brutality, it wounds, shames, and destroys under the guise of honesty. Love without truth is manipulation, it enables, avoids, and ultimately betrays by refusing to address what matters.

In marriage, the call is to hold both together: speak the truth, wrapped in love. This means having hard conversations with gentleness. It means addressing problems without attacking your spouse’s character. It means being honest about your feelings while remaining committed to your covenant.

This is how couples grow together, through transparent, grace-filled communication. When both partners feel safe to speak the truth and confident that they will be heard with love, the marriage matures into something beautiful. ECO’s Marriage Ministry provides tools for couples to develop this kind of communication: honest, kind, and Christ-centered.

Prayer

Father, give us the courage to be honest and the grace to be kind. Help us grow together through truthful, loving words. Amen.
