1 Corinthians 13:4
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”
~ 1 Corinthians 13:4It is no accident that when Paul describes love, he begins with patience. Not passion, not romance, not attraction, patience. This is because true love is tested not in the highlight moments but in the mundane, frustrating, exhausting moments where patience is the only thing that keeps love alive.
Engagement tests your patience in ways you may not have anticipated. Wedding planning disagreements, family opinions, financial stress, differing expectations, all of these can fray nerves and strain your bond. But each of these moments is an opportunity to practice the love that will sustain your marriage for decades.
When you choose patience with your fiancé, you are not just being nice, you are building a muscle that your marriage will depend on. Patience says, “I value this relationship more than I value being right.” It says, “I will give you the same grace that God gives me.” ECO’s Engaged Ministry helps couples develop this essential love language before they say “I do.”
Lord, fill us with patience for each other. Help us remember that love is patient, especially when life is not. Amen.
