1 John 4:19
“We love because he first loved us.”
~ 1 John 4:19On this day when the world celebrates romantic love with flowers, chocolates, and grand gestures, the Bible points us to the source. We do not love because we are naturally good at it. We do not love because our spouse is easy to love. We love because He first loved us. Every capacity we have for love is an overflow of His love poured into our hearts.
This changes everything in marriage. On the days when love feels effortless, give thanks, it is His love flowing through you. On the days when love feels impossible, draw deeper, His well never runs dry. You cannot give what you have not received, and God has given you an inexhaustible supply.
Let His love be the wellspring from which your marriage drinks. Not Hollywood’s version of love, not social media’s curated love, but the raw, sacrificial, covenant love that sent Jesus to the cross. That is the love that sustains a marriage through decades, through difficulty, through everything.
Father, thank You for loving us first. May Your love overflow through us to our spouse and to the world. Amen.
