Malachi 2:14
“The Lord is the witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have been unfaithful to her, though she is your partner, the wife of your covenant.”
~ Malachi 2:14In a world of disposable relationships, the concept of covenant feels almost countercultural. We live in an age of “trial periods” and “keeping options open.” But God’s design for relationships has always been covenant, a binding, sacred, unbreakable promise.
Covenant is not a contract. A contract says, “I will stay as long as you hold up your end.” Covenant says, “I am committed regardless.” A contract is based on performance. Covenant is based on promise. God Himself operates by covenant, and He invites us to do the same.
Malachi reminds us that God is a witness to our covenants. He takes them seriously, even when we don’t. Whether you are preparing for marriage or already in one, let this truth settle in your spirit: your relationship is not just between two people. God is in it. God sees it. God honors it.
Let today be a day of recommitment. Recommit to your spouse, to your future spouse, or to the covenant principles that will guide you into the relationship God has prepared for you.
Father, thank You for being a God of covenant. Help me to honor my commitments with the same faithfulness You show me every day. Whether I am preparing for covenant or living in one, let my life reflect Your unbreakable love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
