The Power of Forgiveness

Colossians 3:13

← Previous Day Back to All Reflections →

Today’s Scripture

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

~ Colossians 3:13

Reflection

Unforgiveness is a prison that locks the one who holds the grudge, not the one who caused the offense. When we refuse to forgive, we carry a weight that God never intended for us to bear. It poisons our hearts, clouds our judgment, and hinders our relationships.

Paul’s instruction is both simple and radical: forgive as the Lord forgave you. Think about that. God forgave you completely, freely, and at great cost. He didn’t wait for you to earn it. He didn’t hold it over your head. He released you fully and welcomed you back with open arms.

In marriage, forgiveness is the oxygen that keeps love alive. In friendships, it is the bridge that survives every storm. In family, it is the thread that holds generations together. Without forgiveness, no relationship can truly thrive.

Is there someone you need to forgive today? It may not happen all at once, but it begins with a decision, a decision to release them into God’s hands and to let His healing flow into the wound.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You forgave me everything. Help me to extend that same grace to others. Where I have been holding onto bitterness or resentment, I choose to release it now. Heal my heart and restore what unforgiveness has broken. Give me the strength to forgive as You have forgiven me. Amen.
