Iron Sharpens Iron

Proverbs 27:17

← Previous Day Next Day →

Today’s Scripture

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

~ Proverbs 27:17

Reflection

The image is vivid and intentional: iron sharpening iron. This is not a gentle, comfortable process. When two pieces of iron meet, there is friction, heat, and sparks. But the result is a sharper, more effective blade. Solomon chose this image deliberately, growth through relationship is not always comfortable, but it is always productive.

God designed marriage not for comfort alone but for transformation. Your spouse sees you in ways no one else does, your blind spots, your rough edges, your unrealized potential. When two covenant partners challenge and encourage each other with honesty and love, both are refined into sharper, stronger versions of themselves.

This means that the friction in your marriage is not necessarily a sign that something is wrong. Sometimes it is a sign that sharpening is happening. The question is not whether there will be sparks, but whether you will let those sparks refine you or burn you. ECO’s Marriage Ministry helps couples embrace the sharpening process with grace, turning friction into growth.

Prayer

Father, help us sharpen one another with love and grace. May our marriage be a place where we both grow closer to You. Amen.
