Mark 2:27
“Then he said to them, ‘The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.’”
~ Mark 2:27Jesus spoke these words to religious leaders who had turned a gift into a burden. The Sabbath was never meant to be a set of restrictive rules, it was designed as a gift of rest for weary humanity. God, who never tires, created a rhythm of rest because He knew we would need it.
In our fasting journey, the principle of Sabbath rest is essential. Fasting is not meant to be a punishing exercise of willpower. Like the Sabbath, it is a gift, an invitation to lay down the things that consume us and receive the rest that only God can give. When we fast, we learn to be sustained by His presence rather than our provisions.
This principle extends to our relationships as well. Marriages need seasons of rest and renewal. Singles need permission to stop striving. Engaged couples need space to breathe amid wedding chaos. God designed rhythms of work and rest for our good. Embrace the gift of rest today.
Father, teach me to rest in You. Help me embrace the gift of Sabbath rest in my body, soul, and relationships. Amen.
