Luke 14:28
"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?"
~ Luke 14:28Jesus was direct: before you build, count the cost. Engagement is the season for counting, not just financial costs, but emotional, spiritual, and relational ones. Marriage will cost you your independence, your selfishness, and your right to always be right. It is the most rewarding investment you will ever make, but it is an investment nonetheless.
Counting the cost is not pessimism, it is wisdom. It means having honest conversations about expectations, boundaries, conflict styles, and faith practices. It means acknowledging that marriage will be hard sometimes, and deciding together that it is worth it anyway.
Do not enter covenant with rose-colored glasses. Enter with open eyes, a willing heart, and a firm foundation of faith. The tower you are building together will stand, but only if you build it with truth, intention, and the grace of God.
Lord, give us wisdom as we count the cost of covenant. Help us enter marriage with honest hearts and open eyes. Let our commitment be rooted not in feelings alone, but in the unshakeable foundation of Your love. Amen.
