1 Peter 4:8
"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."
~ 1 Peter 4:8Peter's instruction is radical: love deeply, because deep love covers. This is not about ignoring wrongdoing or excusing harm. It is about choosing grace over grudges, mercy over scorekeeping, and forgiveness over resentment.
In marriage, you will see your spouse at their worst. You will witness failures, shortcomings, and moments of weakness. The question is not whether these moments will come, but how you will respond when they do. Will you hold offenses like weapons, or will you let love cover them like a healing balm?
Covering love does not mean silence in the face of sin. It means addressing issues from a posture of grace rather than condemnation. It means remembering that you, too, need covering. In Christ, your sins have been covered by the deepest love ever known. Let that same love flow through your marriage.
Father, give me a heart that loves deeply enough to cover. Free me from the temptation to keep score. Help me extend the same grace to my spouse that You have so generously given to me. Amen.
