Opening Prayer

Father God, as we step into this new year, we ask You to make all things new. Help us to let go of the past, the guilt, the shame, the old habits, and embrace the fresh start You offer us in Christ. Renew our minds, restore our hearts, and set our feet on the path You have prepared. We are ready for a new beginning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

New Beginning In CHRIST!

1. Understanding the New Beginning!

2. Letting Go of the old!

3. Embrace the New Life!

4. Trusting God for a Fresh Start!

What Does It Mean To Be In Christ?

To be in Christ means that every part of your life is transformed, your identity, your purpose, your relationships, and your eternal destiny. It’s not just a one-time decision; it’s a daily choice to live in alignment with Christ, empowered by His Spirit.

What Does It Mean To Be In Christ!

Reconciled with God

For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. (Romans 5:10)

Empowered by the Holy Spirit

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So, I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

Transformed identity

But forget all that, it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (Isaiah 43:18-19)

What Does the Old Represent?

Sinful habits, guilt, shame (Colossians 3:5-10)
So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. (Colossians 3:5-10)

Power of Forgiveness:

God forgives and forgets our sins (1 John 1:9; Psalm 103:12)

But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

He has removed our sins as far from us as the East is from the West.

- Example: Prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32)

Steps to Let Go:

Repentance

Renewing the mind through Scripture

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then, you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:2)

2. Letting Go Of The Old! Cont..!

3. Embracing The New Life!

Living by Faith:

Trusting God’s plan: Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Walking in obedience

For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Bearing Fruit:

Evidence of transformation

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23)

Loving and serving others

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (John 13:34-35)

4. Trusting God For A Fresh Start!

God’s Promises:

Renewed strength

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

New mercies

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Faith Over Fear:

Overcoming doubts For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity but of power, love, and self-discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7)

4. Trusting God for a Fresh Start! Cont..!

Biblical Examples:

Ruth’s redemption:

The women of the town praise God for providing a redeemer for Naomi’s family through Boaz and for giving her a grandson to carry on her family’s lineage. They celebrate Ruth’s loyalty, declaring that she is better to Naomi than seven sons. Naomi lovingly takes the child in her arms and cares for him.

The baby is named Obed, who later becomes the grandfather of King David, linking Ruth to the lineage of Jesus Christ. This passage highlights God’s providence, faithfulness, and the restoration of hope and legacy through Ruth’s redemption. (Ruth 4:13-17)

4. Trusting God for a Fresh Start! Cont..!

Peter’s restoration:

Jesus restores Peter after his earlier denial of Him. Following His resurrection, Jesus shares a meal with His disciples by the Sea of Galilee. He turns to Peter and asks him three times, “Do you love me?”, mirroring Peter’s three denials. Each time, Peter affirms his love, though the repetition deeply grieves him.

Jesus responds by giving Peter a commission: “Feed my lambs, ” “Take care of my sheep, ” and “Feed my sheep. ”Through this, Jesus reinstates Peter as a leader in the early church, entrusting him with the responsibility to care for and guide His followers.

Jesus then foretells the manner of Peter’s future death, indicating he would glorify God through his martyrdom. He concludes with the invitation, “Follow me.”

This passage highlights Jesus’ grace, forgiveness, and Peter’s restored purpose as a devoted disciple and shepherd of God’s people. (John 21:15-19)

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You for the promise that in Christ, we are new creations. The old has gone, the new is here. Give us the courage to trust You for a fresh start, in our faith, our relationships, and our purpose. Like Noah after the flood, like Ruth through redemption, like Peter after restoration, You make all things new. We receive it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
