Rooted in Love

Paul prays one of the most beautiful prayers in all of Scripture, that we would be rooted and established in love. Not just that we would know about love, but that we would be so deeply planted in it that nothing could uproot us.

A tree with deep roots can withstand any storm. It draws nourishment from below the surface, from a source that is hidden but constant. In the same way, when our lives are rooted in God’s love, we have a stability that circumstances cannot shake.

Paul also prays that we would grasp the dimensions of Christ’s love, how wide, how long, how high, how deep. This is love beyond measure, beyond comprehension, beyond anything we have ever experienced in human relationships. And yet it is available to us, right now, in this very moment.

Let this be your prayer today: to go deeper. Not wider, not faster, not louder, but deeper into the love of Christ. Everything else will grow from there.
