Guard Your Heart

Proverbs 4:23

← Previous Day Back to All Reflections →

Today’s Scripture

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

, Proverbs 4:23

Reflection

Solomon’s words are among the most important in all of Scripture for anyone navigating relationships. “Above all else”, not as an afterthought, not when it’s convenient, but as the highest priority, guard your heart.

Your heart is the wellspring of your life. What you allow into it shapes your thoughts, your words, your choices, and ultimately your relationships. A guarded heart is not a closed heart, it is a wise heart. It knows what to let in and what to keep out.

For singles, this means being intentional about the emotional attachments you form. For engaged couples, it means protecting your relationship from outside influences that could weaken your bond. For married couples, it means nurturing your heart’s connection to your spouse and to God above all else.

What are you feeding your heart today? What voices are you listening to? What thoughts are you entertaining? Guard the gate, because everything that flows out of your life, your love, your peace, your joy, flows from what you allow in.

Prayer

Lord, help me to guard my heart with wisdom and discernment. Show me what I need to protect myself from and what I need to open myself to. Let my heart be a wellspring of Your love, Your truth, and Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
