1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”
~ 1 Corinthians 13:4-7We live in a world that defines love by feelings, a flutter in the chest, a spark of chemistry, a rush of emotion. But Paul’s description of love in 1 Corinthians 13 reads more like a character study than a romance novel. Love is patient. Love is kind. Love keeps no record of wrongs.
This is covenant love, the kind of love that chooses to stay when feelings fade. It is the love that wakes up on a hard morning and decides to be gentle anyway. It is the love that forgives not because the offense was small, but because the relationship matters more than being right.
Whether you are single, engaged, or married, this passage calls you to examine your heart. Are you loving with God’s love or with your own limited supply? The good news is that you don’t have to manufacture this love on your own. God’s love has been poured into your heart through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Let His love flow through you today.
Ask the Lord to reveal one area where you can practice patient, kind, selfless love today, toward a friend, a family member, a spouse, or even toward yourself.
Lord, teach me to love the way You love, patiently, kindly, and without keeping score. Fill me with Your Spirit so that the love I give flows from Your unending supply, not my own. Help me choose covenant love in every relationship You have placed in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
